Abstract:  Leaky gut syndrome is the underlying cause of a variety of vague disorders. Supplementation with probiotics supports digestion and gut efficiency. The authors discuss the following species of Lactobacillus as important components in probiotics used to balance bacterial populations in the gastrointestinal tract: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus helveticus and Lactobacillus lactis, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus salivarius, Streptococcus thermophilus, Bifidobacterium breve and Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium infantis and Bifidobacterium longum, Bacillus subtilis, and Saccharomyces boulardii. Their compounding recommendations include a topical for use in infants to treat diaper rash, skin conditions and yeast and fungal overgrowth; an oral gel for use in infants to treat thrush, diaper rash, constipation, diarrhea and skin rashes; a vaginal douche for yeast overgrowth; a vaginal gel for yeast overgrowth and a topical gel for nail fungus and other dermatologic fungi.
